1923 - Lectures and Film Shows

Numerous postcards were published for performances of Noel's film. The effectiveness of this form of publicity may well have given Noel the idea to produce a similar advertising card to be sent from the next Expedition.
It appears that most of the publicity material (postcards, posters and programmes) was produced by the printers John Waddington & Co.

There were a number of different images used for the fronts of these promotional cards, and they exist from different venues.

While film performances and lectures were taking place in England during 1923, George Mallory was on a financially-unsuccessful speaking tour in the USA. It was during this tour that the famous "Because it's there" quote appeared, in a New York Times interview entitled Climbing Mount Everest is work for Supermen published on 18th March.
In this extract from a letter dated Boston March 8, Mallory writes:
The longer I visit US the less time I appear to spend in NY - but one of these days I much hope we may meet again.
This was never to be.
